History of CAP

  • Founded in 1979 and based in Leeds (UK), CAP’s data and information systems serve clients across a broad variety of automotive-related sectors.
  • CAP’s current used car values are used as the benchmark for residual values performance across the disposals industry and CAP Monitor is the leading residual values forecasting tool for the contract hire, leasing, daily rental, finance and Insurance industries.
  • CAP’s new vehicle data system serves a broad variety of e-commerce, DMS, showrooms and asset management systems throughout the retail, contract hire, leasing, finance and e-commerce sectors.
  • CAP information also operates at the heart of many leading vehicle marketing websites and car sales portals, helping consumers safely make the best informed decisions about their purchase choices.
  • In May 2012 we launched Black Book Live, the first ‘real time’ used car pricing guide in the market. This solves the problem inherent in monthly price guides of instantly becoming out of date in a fast moving market.
  • In May 2013 we launched a Vehicle Registration Mark look-up service. With over 42 million records in our vehicle database we now give customers higher match rates and faster service response times
  • In June 2013 we launched Total Cost of Ownership which lets consumers understand the true cost of running a car throughout its lifespan.
  • In July 2013 we launched New Vehicle Incentives, a service that allows resellers to quickly, efficiently and cost effectively receive pricing and incentive terms from manufacturers in one system. 
  • In August 2013 we entered into the consumer arena, launching a brand new website www.cap.co.uk providing motorists with free online valuations and total running cost information. 
  • In September 2013 we launched Gold Book & Gold Book iQ so that customers can access, not only accurate future forecasts, but also the intelligence and insight behind our residual values.
  • In January 2014 we acquired Derwent Management Services to strengthen the quality and breadth of our data and services to fleets, manufacturers and consumers.
  • In September 2014 we relaunched CAP Extras providing news, reviews, analysis and insight; free and exclusive for CAP customers.
  • In November 2014 Solera Holdings Inc., a leading provider of Risk and Asset Management Software and Services to automotive and property marketplace acquired CAP.
