CAP appoints Derren Martin to lead car valuations team

CAP has appointed another senior motor industry figure, this time to lead its team of used car market expert editors as part of the company’s drive for unrivalled product quality and excellence.

Derren Martin joins CAP from Vauxhall Motors Ltd, where he spent 17 years in senior sales and pricing functions – latterly as Vehicle Lifecycle Manager, a role which demands clear understanding of used car market pricing dynamics and trends.

This is the latest in a series of top flight appointments to key positions in the business, signalling CAP’s growth ambitions since it was acquired by one of Europe’s leading investment specialists, Montagu Private Equity.

Martin’s decision to join CAP is a vote of confidence in the business’s strategy of employing genuine market experts to manage and interpret the vast quantity of raw data that feeds into its current and short-term forecast values products.

In an industry that is seeing increasing automation of research and analysis processes CAP has bucked the trend by this year increasing its team of editors to 8, supporting and promoting the ground-breaking real-time valuation tool Black Book Live.

Derren Martin will therefore lead the largest team of market expert editors in CAP’s 33 year history.

No stranger to CAP, Martin’s most recent role at Vauxhall saw him liaise closely with all the valuation information providers and manage the residual values setting process against rental and sales business. Key to his role was a deep understanding of supply and demand dynamics in relation to market prices, parallel skills to those demanded for his new role at CAP.

CAP CEO Ian Rendle said: “Derren has great integrity, an impressive track record, the respect of the industry and all the right credentials to drive excellence and growth in our already successful current used valuation products.

“He joins us to lead a fantastic team of real market experts and all of this is good news for our customers, who ultimately benefit and are at the heart of the investments we are making in skills and quality.”

Derren Martin said: “CAP has always been a great business but this is the most exciting time to join it. The backing of Montagu and this year’s launch of Black Book Live were real signals that CAP is not only ambitious but market leading and heading in the right direction.

“CAP’s passion for doing things the right way, not just the easy way, and its focus on putting the customer at the heart of everything it does were key to my decision to join the business.

“I’m also excited to be leading a team of genuine and committed market expert editors who are as passionate as I am about our industry and the quality of the information demanded by customers.”
