Dealers reveal 'business as usual' trading conditions

A recent survey of independent dealers reveals that used car trading conditions are very much ‘business as usual’.

The majority of dealers surveyed by CAP claim that current sales are about the same, or maybe even slightly better, than they were last month.

Customer sales enquiries are also unchanging, coming in at the same rate as they were last month. In fact, only 2% of responders describe their customer enquiries as ‘considerably worse’.

60% of dealers agree that the business climate is stable at the moment. Not just in terms of sales, but with stock levels too. Three quarters say they have no trouble sourcing the right stock, and that their stock levels are about right.

But what about the sales outlook for the next quarter?

Somewhat surprisingly, only 1% of dealers think that trading conditions will decline over the coming months. A massive 50% of dealers think that business levels will improve.

Every month we ask a panel of 100 independent dealers about the trading conditions they’re experiencing. We then collate their views to provide a dealer barometer which gauges market sentiment.
