LCV Editorial July 2015

LCV Marketplace With many familiar faces conspicuous by their absence at the sales we attended during the early part of last month, it was clear that, despite the apparently healthy supply volumes, professional buyers have continued to be choosy over which auctions to attend, not to mention which vehicles they were going to bid on. Overall, auction attendance levels were patchy to say the least...

Whether you attribute it to the seasonal effect of the Easter Holiday, the General Election or even the arrival of the latest royal baby, the used LCV wholesale market remained decidedly quiet judging from the auction activity

LCV Editorial May 2015

The expected slowdown in the used LCV wholesale market arrived right on cue as the Easter Holidays got under way and, whilst the footfall at the auction sales we attended appeared healthy enough, there were noticeably fewer professional buyers around. However, probably due to many small businesses extending their holiday break in line with the school holidays, their absence was more than...

LCV Editorial April 2015

With auction catalogues noticeably much thicker than we’ve seen for some time, not surprisingly, the high auction attendance levels we witnessed during January and February continued throughout March. In fact the stock levels are currently at an all-time high according to the catalogue entries which we monitor each day. However, as always appearances can be deceptive. Although on the face of it...

LCV Editorial March 2015

Most of the sales we attended last month seemed busy enough with a healthy mix of professional trade buyers in attendance, however appearances can be deceptive because closer analysis of our research data revealed that sales conversion rates were lower and average market prices had slipped considerably compared to the previous month. There was a distinct change in mood evident in the halls with...

Service sector growth fuels boom in new and used LCV sales

Strong growth in the UK’s economy, particularly in the service sector, is reflected by the continued demand for new light commercial vehicles, and with the total number of new vehicles registrations in 2014 only 16,167 short of the exceptional level we saw in 2007...

LCV Editorial February 2015

LCV Marketplace As expected the New Year got off to a flying start with higher attendance levels than we’ve seen for some time and improved supply of stock in noticeably better condition. Without exception, at all of the sales we attended across the UK the atmosphere was charged with an air of expectation as both trade and end users battled to secure the most desirable lots. It remains to be seen...

LCV Editorial January 2015

LCV Marketplace Whilst tradition dictates that December is a time when the used LCV wholesale market winds down in the run up to the Christmas Holidays, at the sales we attended trading was brisk and it was clear that professional buyers were on a quest to buy up stock, presumably in readiness for the anticipated New Year surge in retail demand. It was a case of déjà vu for regular auction-goers...

The impact of extended replacement cycles on the LCV used market

Most companies will budget to replace their vehicles after a specific cycle of operation whether they are wholly owned or on some form lease/hire agreement. Since the recession many companies have chosen to extend the life of their vehicles in order to save cost. The downsides to this practice are of course are the additional costs of servicing, breakdowns and having to fund repairs that would...

LCV Editorial December 2014

LCV Marketplace Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat - along with the LCV auction sale catalogues it would appear! With entries noticeably higher compared to the previous month the shortage of stock seemed to be easing – on paper at least! On the face it the supply crisis, that many felt was imminent, may well have been averted, however, appearances can sometimes be deceptive. The...
